The folks at Haskell Indian Nations University are doing great work to preserve Native American languages. This fall, I spent some time with Haskell faculty and students learning about the school’s language program. The spring issue of Lawrence Magazine features my piece on their efforts.
Wonderful article, Julie! I forget sometimes that this kind of thing is happening in our own backyard. It’s an often overlooked cultural cornerstone of Lawrence.

Thanks, David. I was really impressed by the students I talked with–so motivated to preserve their culture and working hard to make it happen.
